Henry Winkler, instantly recognised and admired by audiences of all ages for his role as the Fonz in Happy Days, is to come to W H Smith in Exeter on 22nd October to sign his latest book for youngsters – “Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever Takes on the Universe.”
The book combines two highly successful titles in the Hank Zipzer series. Hank is a character with dyslexia who wants to be number one, not the one who always gets it wrong. According to the 10-year-old there are many reasons why he can’t do his homework: every pen he owns has run out of ink; his thoughts are controlled by aliens; he’s allergic to lined paper.
In the book, Hank’s ingenious plans to avoid doing his homework end in comic disaster when he accidentally floods his classroom and tries to hide his school report in the meat grinder at his mum’s deli – the Crunchy Pickle.
Diagnosed as dyslexic at 31, Henry Winkler writes from experience. For the past three years he has toured schools across the UK promoting his books and inspiring children of all ages and his work with children – whether with dyslexia or not – won him an OBE this year.
He began writing his Hank Zipzer books during a lull in his acting career (as well as acting and writing, he is also an award-winning producer and director of family and children’s programming). He teamed up with Lin Oliver, his writing partner, and from an initial contract to write four books has grown a series of 17, 12 of which have been published in the UK.
Henry will be signing his book at W H Smith in the Guildhall Shopping Centre, Exeter, from 3.00pm on Saturday 22nd October. The book is available exclusively in paperback at W H Smith from October 2011 and retails at £6.99. It will be available to buy in all other book retailers from 5th January 2012.
